Principal's Corner
Dear FW Families and Friends,
On behalf of everyone at Furnace Woods Elementary School, welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. Through collaborative efforts and a strong school-home connection, great growth and success will continue to take place. Our staff will work continuously to provide feedback on your child’s strengths, areas to work on and support suggestions for home.
I hope everyone is healthy and safe. This is my 13th year in Hen Hud and I continue to be extremely proud of our amazing and supportive school community. Thanks to our PTA and custodial team, FW students will enjoy a new gaga pit during P.E. and/or recess - stay tuned for more pictures as the year progresses.
Here are some updates about the Cohen family: our daughter Avery will be in 8th grade and will continue with theatre and may try track in the spring. Our son Ben is going into 5th grade and continues to play hockey, soccer and now lacrosse. Our youngest son Luke is going into 2nd grade – he is still playing soccer and is a boy scout. We have a 3-year-old Springer Doodle (Rory) and my mother-in-law (“Grammy”), who lives with us and has a dog named Gingersnap.
Some ways we inform families of FW happenings is through the FW Newsletter and I will continue to provide updates on Twitter / X (@FW_Principal) in an effort to share bite-sized updates as they happen (also can see these on our school website).
We will continue the protocols used at FW for arrival. Buses will arrive from 8:05 – 8:20 a.m. Drop-offs will begin at 8:00 a.m. - our safety / security officer, Mr. Riley, will continue allowing families to drop students off when there are no buses unloading / driving in. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
If I may ever be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your support and enjoy the remainder of the summer!
