Kiley Cole’s K-2 students at Furnace Woods Elementary School were ready to shine after plunging themselves into Ms. Cole’s third annual “Glow Week.”

Cole transformed the classroom into a stunning black-lit paradise, filled with UV wonders and engaging learning experiences.

During station rotations, students were able to engage in various black-light reading activities. The students also played glow subtraction bowling where they rolled the ball to knock down pins and had to create a subtraction problem by counting those pins.

“I am dedicated to enhancing education, incorporating exciting and innovative activities that elevate my students' engagement and motivation,” Cole said.

Engagement and motivation were evident throughout the week. In another rotation, students participated in cup stacking. They had six glowing cups and had to follow a prompt on a card to match the corresponding cup tower to the photo. Other stations included ring toss, glowing sensory bins, glow Jenga, and a giant glowing maze the students could walk or drive toy cars through.

During Glow Week, students also created beautiful canvases with glowing paint, which Cole turned into silhouette portraits. They even had an opportunity to create glowing sensory bottles by using UV reactive powder, glitter and beads.

Cole said she attempts to craft a multi-sensory teaching experience throughout the year, ensuring that her young learners achieve their academic goals while enjoying every moment.

“Blending education with happiness is key,” Cole said. “After all, who says learning can’t be fun? Let’s glow, kids!”
